Samsung has been under the spotlight for the last few weeks with devices like the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Gear VR and the new Gear S Smartwatch and looks like they are ready to enter in the smart glass market as well with the Gear Blink. Google Glass was the first thing that came to our mind whenever we used to think of smart glasses even if there are a small number of competitors like Lenovo’s prototype smart glasses, Baidu Eye and Funiki Ambient Smart Glasses but things are about to change as Samsung is getting ready with their smart glasses.
Gear Blink is expected to be packed with Tizen OS and the conceptual drawings and patents are the only things we have got so far showing the upcoming Samsung device. If the images we’ve seen are real, we can expect to see an augmented reality focused smart glass and it won’t be similar to Google Glass’s Google Now approach. It will supposedly include an earpiece and the usual glasses. Some renders showed a Gear Blink projecting keyboard on users’ palms to allow users write in thin air using glasses.
Augmented reality glasses can turn into the next big thing if used properly as it can completely change the way we use glasses and might be able to help out with seeing or hearing disabilities as well. It can be of many help if implemented properly. However, the upcoming smart glass will be using Tizen OS which can work as a drawback as the operating system is still in an early stage of development.
The Gear Blink is rumored to be launched in March 2015. It is expected to be launched with the Galaxy S6 as the successor of the Galaxy S5 is expected to launch in the same time. The smartphone is rumored to feature Snapdragon 808 or 810 CPU with 64-bit architecture, 20% more battery, thinner bezels, 3,840×2,160 resolution or 4K resolution, Android 5.0 OS, Adreno 430 GPU and 20-megapixel camera. If the rumors floating around are true, we can expect to learn more about the device from Samsung soon.
